HFTP 2018 Annual Convention week is here, and we are excited! Louisville, we will be there soon — all geared up and prepared to meet up with some of the greatest people in hospitality.
I was going to tell you in my first HFTP 2018 Annual Convention blog how important it is to go over the agenda and to make sure you have your sessions planned, but Artak beat me to it in his blog. I hope you have read and applied his suggestions so that your time is planned to get the most out of every day. If not, you may be like the description of the Wednesday 9:00–11:30 a.m. disaster planning and recovery session which tells us right in its title: “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”
Take a few moments to view the full convention schedule here and see which sessions are the best fit to help you meet your professional education goals.
Once I began to attend HFTP’s HITEC and the Annual Convention, it did not take long for me to realize that HFTP is a lot more than just a group of hospitality financial and technology professionals where everything that is done by them revolves around the hospitality industry. I was reminded that one of the most important areas in any profession or organization is in its finances, and how can you do anything in any industry today without the most up-to-date technology? What makes HFTP such an important part of today’s hospitality industry is that the leaders of HFTP understand the challenges you face every day and they take the time to meet, research and make sure that they cover the areas that present the current challenges in the hospitality world today.
Once these challenges are seen, they are presented to us, the audience, the members of HFTP, at meetings like this one — the HFTP Annual Convention. Here, we have the opportunity to listen to some of the best minds in the industry as we hear our keynote speakers and session leaders. We have the opportunity to network, catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. We have professional certification programs that allow us to advance our hospitality careers.
HFTP has come a long way since its original beginning in 1952. I would like to give a special “thank you” to the team that puts it all together, both the HFTP staff and the volunteers on the HFTP Annual Convention Education Advisory Council. It is important to attend these HFTP events and glean the knowledge and golden nuggets offered in the education sessions, so that we can return home to pass on knowledge and lead our teams.
I look forward to seeing all of you this week in beautiful Louisville, Kentucky. Don’t forget to plan, prepare and promote the HFTP 2018 Annual Convention!
