The HFTP 2018 Annual Convention finished with a “grand finale” on Friday night, and what a remarkable event — delicious food and a beautifully decorated ballroom filled with some of the best attendees ever. What a great time, and the perfect ending to a fantastic week!
I talked to many of the attendees; some of them were first timers, but the majority of them have been coming for quite a while. Many of them said it was already on their calendar for next year. Fritz Pierre, director of finance at Hyatt Regency Cleveland was attending for the first time and he had this to say about his experience:
“[This is] my first convention and it was a worthy investment in terms of education and networking. I attended a couple of HITEC and Club and Hotel Controllers meetings in the past, and I can tell you the experience was quite different. At the convention, the keynote speakers are of greater caliber, the education sessions are more effective and more diverse. It was a smaller group, but with a greater focus. The Tribute to Success was inspiring. I will definitely be in Orlando [at the HFTP 2019 Annual Convention] next year.”
Someone that has attended for many years, and most of us know well, is Terry Price. Terry is a finance and IT consultant at TLP Hospitality Consulting. Here is what he has to say about the HFTP Annual Convention:
“I have been attending Annual Convention for many years now. It is one event that is always on my calendar. It is a time that I get to visit with old friends and expand my network by meeting new friends. The conference always has current and relevant topics and the speakers are from within our own network. This conference is one of my favorite times of year. I always leave a little sad from missing everyone, but a lot stronger both professionally and personally.”
The education sessions were exactly what we needed, and the keynote speakers were right on. I felt like Colette Carlson, whose keynote session was The Connected Leader, might have been following me around when I was working in hospitality. I could completely relate to everything that she demonstrated as burdens in her presentation. It was funny, entertaining, and totally the truth in so many ways.
Although we may all be a little sad to leave Louisville this year, we will have next year in Orlando to catch up again and learn more about our professions. We learn and grow in different areas and look forward to another great Annual Convention next year! As Terry Price said, “we leave a lot stronger both professionally and personally.”
Thank you again to all of the HFTP staff, volunteers and everyone who walked a lot of steps this year to keep everything one step ahead for all of us who attended.
Move over Mickey Mouse… We will be in Orlando, Florida USA for the HFTP 2019 Annual Convention October 23 – 25, 2019!
