When reflecting upon this year's HFTP Annual Convention, it occurs to me that all the professionals I met had a high level of commitment to furthering their careers and professions. Executing an event for discerning professionals isn't an easy task, but one that was expertly delivered by our association....HFTP compiled a menu of educational sessions that met a variety of needs for finance and technology experts. From the practical applications of designing reports and dashboards to personal leadership development, the Annual Convention covered subjects to help members grow professionally and personally....One session that attracted attendees from all experience levels was Strategies for the Overwhelmed presented by Patricia Fuller, Ph.D.  with Baldwin Krystyn Sherman Partners. Her presentation combined humor with the science behind stress to deliver practical tips that anyone can use on a daily basis in order to avoid becoming overwhelmed. The keys we need in our lives to reduce stress the most are nutrition, exercise, sleep and relaxation....Another session relevant to all attendees was Contingency Planning led by HFTP CEO Frank Wolfe. In his session, professionals explored a property's legal duty of care and effective strategies to use during an emergency. Participants were eager to discuss best practices exhibited in the recent crises that have faced the hospitality industry....In addition to the incredible education sessions, the HFTP Annual Convention was the place to make meaningful professional connections. The networking luncheons, happy hours and the Tribute to Success offered attendees an opportunity to relax and connect with long-time peers and meet new faces....I was happy to have the opportunity to meet students from the "HFTP Student Chapter of the Year" from San Jose State University who received scholarships from their local chapter to attend the convention....The culmination of the event was the HFTP Tribute to Success (formerly known as President's Evening) on the final evening, where we welcomed Tim Nauss, CHAE as the new HFTP Global president and honored outstanding professionals who have made a significant contribution to the industry and association. After an elegant dinner and awards presentation, we let loose and danced the night away with our new friends....For future professionals who are deciding if they should attend the HFTP Annual Convention, I would advise them to register if they are committed to success in all aspects of their professional life....
