Development of the New CHTP Certification Program Moves Full Steam Ahead

With HITEC 2014 just a few short weeks away, I thought it would be timely to go ahead and update the industry on the latest progress HFTP has made concerning the CHTP Certification Program since the CHTP Task Force meeting earlier this year.

At the HFTP March council meetings, the Certification Advisory Council and a few members from the CHTP Task Force, revisited where the CHTP is today. The group then took an in-depth look at the current CHTP certification program examination questions. The group eliminated several more subjective and for lack of a better term, ‘dated’ exam questions from the pool. As a result of that review, the exam question pool was also significantly reduced, leaving approximately 242 usable questions that can be applied toward the new CHTP exam that is currently being developed.

At this time the new CHTP certification exam structure was also decided on. The new structure will consist of three sections, focusing on applications, hospitality technology, and core technology. While keeping in mind the current industry trends, we began placing questions within the new exam format and learned that several content areas were lacking questions.

As a result, it was determined that HFTP now needed a Task Force to write questions for the new CHTP examination. So, HFTP put together a CHTP Question Writing Task Force, with one purpose: to write the new exam questions for the CHTP certification exam. HFTP teamed up several of our industry IT professionals and university educators to write these new questions. Over a two day period, the task force compiled 525 new exam questions. The next step will likely be to have an approved psychometrician review all of the current and new exams questions to validate them for testing.

HFTP is planning to inform the HITEC attendees about the new CHTP exam questions, the maintenance plan to stay current moving forward and the new structure of the exam. Along with these changes come revision of the application process and updated policy and procedures.

In the meantime, HFTP will continue to offer the current CHTP program until the new CHTP exam is fully ready for launch. A significant marketing buzz about the new CHTP program has started to filter through the HFTP membership. If you are attending HITEC this year, stop by the CHTP Lounge in room 519 to learn more about the new, refreshed, revamped, and most of all -current with industry trends CHTP Certification Program.
