HFTP Heading to the CMAA World Conference and Club Business Expo

At HFTP, we value our partnerships with other industry associations, and our alliance with CMAA is certainly no exception. HFTP will attend and exhibit at the upcoming Club Managers Association of America World Conference and Club Business Expo on February 24-28, 2011 in Orlando, Fla. Each year we make this a must-attend event, and this year HFTP Global President Tom Smith, CHAE, will attend along with HFTP COO Lucinda Hart, CAE, and HFTP Director of Certification Bryan Wood.

As the CFO of Westmoor Country Club in Brookfield, Wis., Tom is also an active member of CMAA. He will introduce speakers of club accounting and financial management sessions sponsored by HFTP. Make sure to attend these sessions:

Member vs Non-Member Gross Receipts

On Friday, February 25, Mitch Stump, CPA, with Club Book Series will present Member vs Non-Member Gross Receipts. He will cover the distinction between a 501(c)(7) tax exempt club and a taxable club based on its gross receipts, and how clubs can benefit from proper allocation of those receipts. An HFTP member, Mitch frequently speaks at HFTP conferences, most recently at the 2010 Annual Convention and Tradeshow in San Diego, Calif.

Financial Metrics: Comparing the Most and Least Profitable Clubs

On Saturday, February 26, Ray Schmidgall, Ph.D. will present Financial Metrics: Comparing the Most and Least Profitable Clubs. They will discuss their analysis of balance sheets from 100 clubs, compare these metrics and discuss how they relate to a club’s profitability. Ray is a professor at Michigan State University, a member of the HFTP Communications Editorial Advisory Council, and a frequent contributor to The Bottomline.

Tax and Financial Trends in a Recovery Economy

On Monday, February 28, Kevin Reilly, CPA  of Witt Mares, PLC will present Tax and Financial Trends in a Recovery Economy. He will discuss the financial, demographic and  tax issues and other club trends that hope to survive and thrive in a period of economic recovery.

Club Financial Roundtable

Again on Monday, Kevin Reilly, CPA of Witt Mares, PLC will lead the Club Financial Roundtable. Questions, concerns, ideas and solutions regarding club financial issues are welcome. Kevin is a member of HFTP and a frequent speaker and contributor at HFTP events.
