Howdy, Pardner! It’s the Annual Convention.

After an exhausting day at the Texas State Fair near the Cotton Bowl with the representatives from the San Jose State University student chapter, we got a nice, Texas welcome at the exhibit hall and Welcome Reception. It was nice to dine on the hors d’eouvres here at the Hilton Anatole after a day of fried Oreos and corn dogs. I stopped by a few booths that caught my eye, particularly the stuffed animals that Post Integration gave away. Since I didn’t win much at the carnival games at the Fair, I nabbed one here at our Convention.

On Thursday, I started early with “Now Presenting…,” given by Terry Price, CHAE, CHTP, CPA and Agnes DeFranco, Ed.D., CHAE. The presentation was on guest speaking, and I am no longer more nervous than a long-tailed cat in a room full-a rockin’ chairs. OK, I digress. I should not use Texas Talk in my future presantations (sic) and I must learn how to proofread as well.

Following up was a keynote address by native Texan and popular talk show host, Vicki Hitzges, who trained with the late Zig Ziglar, a popular motivational speaker known for his wisdom, as well as his Southern charm. Vicki embraces the “keep-on learning” ethic, just as Paragon Award winner, AH&LA’s Joe McInerney, CHA who keeps on keeping-on the learning trek. And how about Shareef Fahmy, who scored the highest grades for his CHAE designation this year and earned the CHAE of the Year Award? I need to bolt down from San Francisco to Fahmy’s Monterey Peninsula to grab me a few pointers so I can take the test soon.

There are still a bonanza of great subjects to choose on Day Two here in Dallas. I know that I will make it a priority to take a look at the great list on the docket for Friday. To quote Zig Ziglar, “A goal properly set is halfway reached.” I’m fixin’-ta to choose my own convention here at HFTP. I hope y’all do the same! Enjoy the rest of the Day, Two!
